The past decade has highlighted critical challenges for architectural institutions, prompting a need for transformation. A fivefold increase in the number of graduating students each year, the Supreme Court’s interpretation that architects are no longer essential in building production, a sharp decline in new student enrollments, and the significantly lower pay of architectural professionals compared to their counterparts in other fields have collectively created an atmosphere of precarity and vulnerability. Additionally, the absence of robust humanities and ethics courses, inadequate teacher training, restrictive regulatory frameworks imposed by state agencies, and the overwhelming demands of private management have further exacerbated this precariousness for educators and institutions. How might the next twenty years unfold for architectural academia, the discipline and the world at large? What steps can we take not only to survive but to be relevant? And most importantly, can we find ways to address these challenges collaboratively? This meeting of architectural educators aims to engage with these questions and work a path forward together.
Participation in this event is by invitation only.
