HOW DO WE GROW?

15 February 2025
0900 - 1630 Hrs

The social realm has been undergoing a reconfiguration for some time now, shaped by the dynamics of new media, the corporatisation of ethics, autonomous technologies, self-directed learning, health- and environment-oriented moralities, information overload, and the emergence of new platforms to show and be seen, to buy and sell, to play and communicate. This new social brings with it a distinct psyche, logic, and morality, challenging concepts that the previous social fabric held dear—such as family, community-living, national citizenship, rights, and institutional loyalty. These shifts have profound implications for life, space, and its production that influence commons, infrastructure, and urban environments. In the three panels of the SEA Conference 2025, we invite architectural pedagogues from across the country to share their experiments and collaboratively reflect on how we can navigate and thrive within this ever-evolving landscape.

Panel 1: New Pedagogies | 09:00 – 11:00

Panelists: Kiran Kumar, Belinda Judith, Saptarishi Kolay, Rupali Gupte and Rohit Mujumdar (Co-Chairs)

What emerging contexts are shaping pedagogical explorations? What new content and methods should be introduced? What challenges are surfacing in the classroom and in the pedagogy of space? What drives these pedagogical inquiries?

This panel invites architectural educators to discuss recent, ongoing, or upcoming pedagogical explorations within their institutions.

TEA BREAK | 11:00 – 11:30

Panel 2: New Methods | 11:30 – 13:30

Panelists: Sankalpa, Parul Kiri Roy, Amitava Roy, Prasad Khanolkar and Apurva Talpade (Co-Chairs)

What are the problems in teaching design in today’s contexts? Are there new kinds of bodies, minds, spaces and experiences that require newer pedagogical methods to perceive and imagine? What new tools, methods, models and concepts are required to engage with these problems?

The panelists are invited to draw from their experiences and experiments in their institutions to respond to these questions.

LUNCH BREAK | 13:30 – 14:30

Panel 3: New Institutionalisations | 14:30 – 16:30

Panelists: Pratyush Shankar, Soumini Raja, Vinod Aranha, Prasad Shetty and Anuj Daga (Co-Chairs)

What are the institutional challenges and opportunities in the emerging contexts? What form should a classroom take? What form should an institution take? How do institutions define themselves? What are the redefinitions, mutations and networks that the institutions need to undertake?

Through the experiments in their contexts, the panelists in this panel shall discuss their initiatives and provide directions for imagining newer institutional forms.

CLOSING REMARKS & TEA | 16:30 – 17:00
